The nearest airport is Bhuntar Airport (Kullu-Manali Airport), about 50 km from Manali. From Bhuntar, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Manali.
The nearest railway station is Joginder Nagar Railway Station (approx. 145 km from Manali). Major trains connect Joginder Nagar with Pathankot, from where you can take a bus/taxi to Manali.
Manali is well-connected by road to Delhi, Chandigarh, and other major North Indian cities. Regular Volvo buses, private taxis, and HRTC buses run from Delhi (approx. 12–14 hours) and Chandigarh (approx. 8 hours).
The best time is mid-June to early October. July to September offers lush greenery and occasional snow at the pass, while early October brings clearer skies and colder temperatures.
The trek is considered moderate. It’s suitable for beginners with decent fitness. It involves some steep ascents and descents, especially while crossing the pass and descending toward Sheagoru.
The highest point of the trek is Hampta Pass, which is at an altitude of 14,035 feet (4,280 meters) above sea level.
No prior experience is required, but basic fitness and stamina are essential. Regular walking, stair climbing, and light workouts for 3–4 weeks before the trek are recommended.
Yes, Chandratal Lake is usually included (weather permitting) after crossing the pass. The drive from Chattru to Chandratal takes about 4–5 hours and offers stunning views of Spiti Valley.
