Kedarkantha – A Popular Trekking Expedition in the Kedarkantha Region of the Indian Himalayas. It is a 5-day and 4-night adventure that takes outdoor enthusiasts through breathtaking landscapes and offers a thrilling experience. Participants typically start their journey from a base camp and trek for several days, reaching the Kedarkantha summit, which is known for its stunning panoramic views of snow-covered peaks.

This trek is suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers, as it provides a chance to witness pristine forests, meadows, and alpine lakes while experiencing the thrill of camping in the wilderness. It’s a perfect getaway for nature lovers and adventure seekers looking to explore the Himalayas on a relatively short but rewarding trekking expedition.

Kedarkantha Trek - Details Itinerary

  • Today, the Kedarkantha Trek organizer will begin the exciting trekking. We will start from Dehradun to reach Sankri early in the morning, at 6:30 AM. This 210-kilometer ride lets you make a collection of pictorial views.
  • The entire drive will be filled with the enticing sights of Garhwal. You will pass through the twisting roads and the exotic locales of Mussoorie and Naitwar. On reaching Sankri village, you will create a camp at the quaint village. This is approximately 13 kilometers inside the Govind National Park.
  • Finally, we have reached the ground from where we will begin the trek from Sankri to Juda ka Talaab. Juda ka Talaab has an altitude of 9,100 feet.
  • To pursue the trekking, we will start early in the morning after some warm-up exercises for required acclimatization. On the way to trekking, the beautiful village of Sankri will motivate you. The pond ringed by pine and oak trees will be where you stay for the night.
  • Kedarkantha Trek organizer has planned this day for a trek from Juda ka Talaab to Kedarkantha Base. Juda ka Talaab is a beautiful lake surrounded by pine trees. During winter, it freezes and becomes an enthralling place for fun activities.
  • You can walk on the ice and enjoy the slopes. The trek organizer will arrange a guide to teach you some great trekking skills for the slopes. You can make bigger footsteps. After completing this 4-kilometer-long journey in around 2 hours, we will reach our destination, which is the Kedarkantha Base Camp. Kedarkantha Base Camp lies at an altitude of 11,250 feet. The beauty of this place is very promising. You can set up the camp amidst the pine and oak trees. Lying on the meadows and watching the stars will remove all the fatigue you have collected while trekking.
  • The day is more exciting than yesterday as today we will cover a long trekking route. We will begin the thrilling journey to conquer the peak. This can be a challenge for you, as the climb is quite steep. You will gradually reach the peak of Kedarkantha after trekking through dense forests. Meanwhile, you will witness mountain valleys, ranges, and pine trees. The beauty of feather-like clouds will amaze you. The majesty of the Dhauladhar Range, Chainsheel Pass, Har ki Dun Valley, and Rupin Valley is worth seeing.
  • Swargarohini, Black Peak, and Bandarpoonch are other enticing highlights of this trekking journey. Additional peaks include Gangotri, Yamunotri, Jorkanden, and Draupadi ka Danda.
  • You can take a halt at the top, and after a few hours, you will head back to the campsite. The ascent will cover 3,850 meters. After taking sufficient rest during the journey and exploration, we continue.
  • Passing through various scenic spots along the way, we will prepare for a descent to Hargoan, where we are going to have an overnight stay.

This is the time to wrap up the journey and start trekking from Juda ka Talaab to Sankri. After reaching Sankri, the drive back to Dehradun will offer majestic views of the Himalayas. The snow-clad peaks will make your journey interesting. When the sun rises behind the pine trees and spreads its rays across the meadows, your trek will become even more pleasant. The views of Har ki Doon and its beautiful meadows will give you a chance to click more pictures.

    The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, located about 210 km from Sankri (the base village for the trek). You can take a flight to Dehradun from major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Sankri.

  • By Train

    The nearest railway station is Dehradun Railway Station. It is well-connected to major cities across India. From Dehradun, you can travel to Sankri by hiring a shared/private taxi or taking a local bus.

  • By Road

    You can reach Sankri by road via Dehradun or Mussoorie. Regular buses and taxis are available from Dehradun to Sankri. The total distance is about 210 km, and the journey takes around 8 to 10 hours depending on road conditions.
